Sorry - I haven't been posting although I have been working. I am taking my first on-line interactive painting course and have some fun and challenging experiences. The instructor is Jane Davies and if you haven't checked out her website - please do. She does some fabulous work. I discovered her through following Carol Marine's blog and now - violá. I've got her book and am taking a course. This course is called 'Beyond the Color Wheel' and is a boot camp for colour theory. I will post here some of the collages we did last week that show both the saturated (full colour) version and the de-saturated (gray only) version. The first group of images were created by cutting out a variety of shapes from sheets of painted paper. I first made the gray image and then tried to duplicate it using shads of green. The next group of images were made with a mixture of painting and collage using five colours of various shades. Once the colour images were complete, I de-saturated them using the mono filter on my photo editing program. I discovered the power of values - high contrast, mid and low contrast and the impact of placement and juxtaposition of these differing values. Where does the eye go? What is the focal point? Have I created distractions by having to many areas of high contrast? And what do the gray scale images lack that the colour provides? What do you think?? I'd love to hear your comments.
