My JourneyIf I had my life to live over again, I'd dare to make more mistakes. I'd relax. I would be sillier than I have this time. I would pick more daisies. - Nadine Stair, 85 I discover my 'self' when I paint.By embracing each day and not living ahead of myself, by welcoming my mistakes, trusting my intuition, relaxing into my life's journey, slowly my true self comes forward. I pick more daisies! Life is the greatest adventure! I love the idea of my art connecting with your true self, tickling your curiosity and imagination, encouraging you to follow your own creative spirit. Let me start at the beginning... |
The Early Years
I grew up in a small Ontario town, the oldest of five children. As a young girl, I was fascinated by 'making pictures'. I am told that I would sit with my father and instruct him: "Draw this Daddy" and he dutifully did so. Later, I learned to make my own pictures, sometimes on paper and sometimes, to my mother's dismay, on the walls! |
The Real WorldAfter high school, I wanted to go to art school. However, the unspoken message was that although I was talented, there was no future in it. "How could I possibly support myself with a Fine Arts degree?" Lucky for me, the university I attended had a fledgling Fine Arts department; a friend suggested that I take a drawing course - which I did. That course changed EVERYTHING! The result? In my second year, I switched into the fine arts program, focusing on sculpture and printmaking. What a wonderful, exciting time I had! And at twenty-two, with my art degree in hand, I discovered that "They" were right - there were no jobs for artists. How was I going to support myself? |
Career and Family
Thats right - I had to get a 'real' job - teaching for several years before moving from Ontario to Alberta, and in mid-life, with two young sons to raise, I went back to university to obtain a law degree. After graduating, I was well positioned to join the emerging field of mediation and enjoyed an exciting career helping people resolve conflicts. But I didn’t forget my creative roots! Throughout my professional career, I continued to make art: painting, drawing, pottery, photography, textiles. Play time with my sons was often creative time - making gifts, jewellery, sewing projects - you name and we tried it. |
And now...... I would start barefoot earlier in the year, stay that way later in the fall, go to more dances, ride more merry-go-rounds and pick more daisies ...Nadine Stair I strive to work from my heart... focusing on the process of creating... Why do I paint? Whenever I pick up my paint brush, and pause before a canvas, I am forced to put aside my fears, and paint, make marks, and make mistakes. Am I really an artist? I love the challenge of painting abstractly. It's hard because it demands that I let go of trying to replicate the outer world and connect with my 'self' and my inner world. My Vision I love the idea of my art connecting with others, prompting you to pause and smile, capturing your curiosity and, more importantly, encouraging you to follow your own creative spirit. My Mission To sell original paintings on a global basis to people with a bold, energetic, creative spirit who are drawn to thought-provoking images that stirs the imagination. Connecting with you! After reading about my journey, I hope you feel like we just had coffee and you have a new friend to share your creative dreams with and be silly together! “Creativity takes Courage” ...
