After spending a month in Australia, I was happy to get home to my studio and start the process of capturing the colours of that beautiful country. I have a series of 9 canvases ranging from 18x24, to 24x36 and a couple of bigger ones at 30x48.
Here's the first one - a glimpse of the southeastern coast; it will be on display at SeismicFest at Silver Star Mountain Resort tomorrow. A total of 10 local artists will be on hand showing their work for the evening of March 25. Check it out https://www.seismicfest.ca/culture-cocktails

I am taking another Jane Davies online workshop; a small group of about a dozen artists. This workshop requires that we determine what we want to explore/investigate, and develop a weekly lesson - and then proceed with the intention.
I've been unclear about what I want to explore... so I have limited myself to simple lines and shapes, all in B & W with a focus on layering and creating depth. I am thrilled and honoured to have my painting selected as the featured painting for March of the home page of the Federation of Canadian Artists, North Okanagan chapter. It's also on my home page - "Watching You.
Check it out: http://www.northokanaganfca.com I spent an exciting afternoon in the studio, started a new series of about 10 canvases, various sized from 18x24 to 24x48. In this series I am trying to capture the colours of Australia - the rich orange/red earth, the lush green of vineyards and forests, the smokey deep blue/grays of the storm sky, the aqua/turquoise of the ocean and the warm golds or the beach.
I've just laid down the initial layer, a start - but I'm very excited about this series. Here are a few of the starts - remember - this is just the first layer of paint; all the paintings will look quite different in the end. Here are a couple of pieces that I was working on back in January before my trip to Australia. I don't think they are finished but I'm in the evaluation phase - what's my next step?
I can't even decide which way is up or down on the red one! What do you think? Some wonderful shapes and designs in the rocks. And the dramatic skies! Whew - such an abundance of inspirational images.
