Wow! I attended a weekend workshop in Kelowna at the beautiful Ellis Studio (if you haven't checked them out - do so). The workshop instructor was Doug Swinton of Calgary (Swinton's Art Supplies) - and he was excellent!!!
Each 8x10 oil painting was done in 20 minutes! The idea of this time constraint is to force artists to get bigger - brushes and brush marks and stop dabbing (I'm a terrible dabber). So here's my work - the mountains were really a challenge!

Yesterday - it rained. What a wonderful excuse to stay inside and...PAINT! I experimented with Burridge's compositional designs - overlapping, cruciform, Golden section, curves, and cantilever (from L to R below).
What fun I had. Here's the best of the day, some of which work better than others, compositionally; they need more work, not finished yet, just percolating in my creative soul. Too often the focal point ends centred - not where I thought I was putting it. Ok - it's true. I've been a slug when it comes to my painting this summer. And I'm back at it. Just finished a fabulous week-long workshop with Bob Burridge and have lots to share with you - some finished, some not. BTW - it was a figure drawing/painting workshop - so mostly nudes. After roughing in the figure, we applied some collage materials and then over-painted. I haven't done the overpainting yet so they looked 'unfinished'.
