I am enrolled in a business course for artists - how to promote and sell original artwork. It's a fabulous course! Course leader and mentor, Alexis Fedor is pushing us hard with lots of thought provoking questions about why we are artists and why we want to be in the business of art.
So here are some of my responses to those tough questions... 1. Why? - I have always loved to create, whether painting, sculpting, taking photos or designing new spaces. It's exciting and fun. I now have the time to turn my attention to creating through paint and I am enjoying it immensely - although there certainly are some frustrating days. As a child, I was discouraged from pursuing art because everyone knew that you could not make a living as an artist. So I followed the corporate route in my education and later in various career choices, but my heart was yearning to play. Now is my time. I love to learn and there's lots to discover about making marks. And I also love to share my creative efforts and hopefully tickle the imagination and curiosity of my clients. So I have a question for all of you - When it comes to choosing art for your home or work environment, what is your single greatest fear, frustration or challenge?

I'm continuing on in my Jane Davies workshop and making more mono prints. The second step in the project is to paint the backgrounds. In some cases, I liked what happened; others not so much. I struggle to figure out what colour to use, whether I fill in the whole background right to the edge of the printed area or to leave a white border. Maybe I over-think it??
Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of the work before I started painting the backgrounds. The images are all 'works in process'. More later. These are all 10x10 on printmaking paper. Thank you for visiting my website and I always love to hear from you! Which one(s) resonate with you? |
