I’ve been in Japan for the past ten days with my son and his family. It’s a most incredible place - so many people in such a small area. Everything is spotlessly clean. It’s unbelievable. And the people so very friendly and polite. Much as I am enjoying the time with my family, I am missing my studio and my paints. I would like ro incorporate the simplicity and minimalism of Japan in my next works.

My next course with Jane Davies involves making mono prints using a gelli plate. The purpose of this exercise was to use both collage and print and leave lots of white space. I'm not overly excited about the results - they just don't 'speak' to me - but it was an interesting exercise. Can you tell which elements are collage and which are print? I am slowly discovering what I do and what I do not like to paint. I like simple shapes and lines, and an experimental process - not knowing what the result may be. I like abstract which I categorize as follows: Objective abstract work tells a story, it's about painting something but in an abstract manner - a still life, landscape, cityscape. On the other hand, a Non-Objective abstract work reflects the artist's intention , an abstraction of an intention. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for visiting my blog! |
